A contract to create the “Joint Research Centre of Advanced Aerospace Propulsion Technology” was signed between the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Academy of Aerospace Propulsion Technology (AAPT). Leading the charge will be PolyU’s Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering (AAE).

In order to further advance the advancement of China’s aerospace technology, the alliance intends to establish a highly competitive scientific research force and technical cooperation team in the field of advanced aircraft propulsion technology.

Advanced aeronautical propulsion technology has a bright future and many potential applications. To create the “Joint Research Centre of Advanced Aerospace Propulsion Technology,” PolyU and AAPT are forming an ongoing complementary relationship.

The five-year collaboration plan includes a number of collaborative R&D initiatives. The projects will concentrate on the research and development of important technologies and improve the engineering research and production capabilities in the field in accordance with the global future development direction of aerospace propulsion technology.

On July 4, 2022, the partnership agreement was officially signed. The Associate Dean of AAPT and the Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU both signed the partnership agreement. The new partnership, according to PolyU’s president, would assist manned spaceflight, space exploration, and the growth and modernization of the country’s civil aerospace industry.

The Dean of AAPT noted that PolyU’s AAE has design expertise in aerospace and aeronautical propulsion technology in addition to a foundation of research that is among the best in the world. The Joint Research Centre for Advanced Aerospace Propulsion Technology has access to PolyU’s extensive professional infrastructure and intelligence resources, which can help it develop into a powerful forum for knowledge sharing. It will significantly advance the field’s technological advancement and support for research.

This partnership is dedicated to developing a team of high-level interdisciplinary experts for future applications in addition to a number of joint research projects. The relationship, according to PolyU’s Vice President for Research and Innovation, will facilitate academic interaction and resource sharing and improve the effectiveness of various academic seminars. High-tech skills, including as research doctorate students and visiting researchers, will also be fostered concurrently. To support significant initiatives, the combined research team will also take part in a variety of cooperative research programs.

The collaboration between PolyU and CASC will be led by the Associate Dean of the Joint Research Center of AAPT. The implementation of the nation’s technology projects and its major demands will be served and supported by this more extensive and long-term relationship.
