At the PT Expo China 2021 in Beijing, the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) displayed a portfolio of its cutting-edge 5G technologies. ASTRI demonstrated its technologies and ideas that improve the competitive strength of organizations in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and around the world under the subject “5G Innovation for Digital Future.”
According to ASTRI’s Vice-President of Communications Technologies, the agency has been working on 5G and C-V2X technologies since 2016 and is constantly engaging with diverse industry partners to meet market demands. We’re excited to show you the results of these efforts.
Their latest Easy 5G solution includes a 5G O-RAN base station, 5G Core, and 5G MEC, and can be customized to support a variety of new and upcoming applications. ASTRI’s C-V2X system is now under open road testing, with the goal of providing realistic scenarios to assist the smart mobility road map that will eventually lead to autonomous driving. The agency is looking forward to collaborating with more partners and contributing to the development of smart cities in China and around the world.
The following ASTRI technologies were on display at PT Expo:
5G Technology Solution and Usage
This is a cutting-edge end-to-end mobile network technology solution that includes a 5G base station, 5G MEC (Multi-access Edge Computing), and a 5G Core. It’s cutting-edge, with commercial-grade and proven quality, significant market potential, and social advantages. It has the potential to lessen the entrance hurdle for SMEs into the 5G industry. Easy 5G technologies have been licensed for commercialization to a number of customers, including a number of technological giants, and have contributed to Hong Kong’s 5G rollout.
ASTRI’s Easy 5G uses an O-RAN (open radio access network) base station design, which is a new 5G network deployment and commercial model that allows for an open, virtualized, and completely interoperable RAN. It works with a variety of hardware platforms (ARM/x86/SoC) and allows mobile network operators (MNOs) to mix and match RAN equipment components from various vendors.
5G SA Core and UPF: Earlier in 2020, ASTRI’s 5G core network software on the Intel platform achieved a world-leading UPF data throughput of more than 1.3Tbps. ASTRI’s 5G Core is being updated to support 3GPP Rel. 16/17, which includes TSN (Time-Sensitive Networking) over 5G and 5G-LAN for industrial IoT; network slicing, which allows operators to maximize their return on investment by utilizing and managing network resources efficiently; and Orchestrator for network autoscaling.
5G MEC: ASTRI’s MEC reduces latency, enables disruptive vertical applications, and improves infrastructure efficiency by delivering intelligence-enabled services at the network edge.
Technologies for 5G+AI applications
From cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) to a smart city neuron platform to optical positioning technologies for new applications like Automated Guided Vehicles, this book covers it all (AGV). These technologies bring new and novel applications by combining 5G high bandwidth, ultra-low latency, and enormous IoT capabilities:
Smart Mobility with 5G C-V2X: C-V2X is the future of transportation. ASTRI’s C-V2X network solution is currently in Open Road Test, marking a watershed moment in Hong Kong’s Smart Mobility. The C-V2X system, when combined with 5G technology, will enable effective, accurate, and faster information sharing, improving road safety and traffic efficiency while also paving the way for autonomous vehicle development in the future.
ASTRI’s Neuron Platform for Smart City is a 5G-based ICT software platform for a smart city that offers a framework for data gathering, processing, and sharing to speed smart city development adaptability. The cloud-based platform can be used at both the network edge and the central office. In Hong Kong Science Park, the Platform experimental network has been installed.
ASTRI develops a new semantics visual SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) technology for Industrial IoT: ASTRI develops a new semantics visual SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) technology for autonomous vehicles that allow drivers to build a map and localize their vehicles in that map at the same time. The created system combines machine learning and artificial intelligence to provide AGV with smarter and easier indoor/outdoor navigation.
Perception and High Precision Positioning System: The technology is based on a single camera that uses novel camera calibration technology to provide low-cost, low-latency, and high precision positioning services for C-V2X, Autonomous Driving, and Smart Cities. ASTRI’s technology has been field-tested and is being used in large production by our partners.
The event’s theme this year is ‘Innovation lights up the Digital Future,’ with an emphasis on new technologies including 5G, AI, IoT, cloud computing, big data, blockchain, XR, quantum computing, and their applications.
