New Solutions From Hong Kong Innovation Labs

Two software firms affiliated with the Hong Kong Smart Government Innovation Lab have released new solutions that are now available for purchase by businesses and institutions.

Virtual Reality (VR) for Construction Safety Training (Solution 1)

Description of the solution

Nowadays, safety training in the construction sector is primarily based on traditional teaching methods such as didactic instruction, which is one-way communication and lacks engagement, resulting in a lack of opportunities for trainees to practice. However, a virtual reality-based training system could provide users with a more immersive experience and a better awareness of safety construction methods and potential hazards. Users can clearly experience accidents through accident simulation, increasing site safety awareness and lowering the likelihood of industrial accidents. The backend system we created, on the other hand, replaces the reliance on paperwork and manpower efforts for training records and performance analysis. Safety officers have access to real-time quantitative training records and data analysis.

Areas of Application

The solution was created with the intent of being used in the fields of the environment, housing, and infrastructure.

Technology Employed
The solution makes use of the most up-to-date Virtual Reality technologies.

Consider the following example.

First, worker productivity can be increased by utilizing VR Construction Safety Training. In an immersive VR environment, users can gain a better grasp of construction safety procedures and potential threats. In addition, the VR training system supports multi-user training, allowing for greater interaction diversity. The realistic VR scenes aid in the development of long-term memory among employees.

Second, by employing VR training modules, workers’ safety awareness can be improved. Diverse training modes are available in the training system, allowing trainees to encounter various levels of difficulty. The VR training courses contain all-around safety checks, such as putting on PPE and examining if the tools or machines’ individual components are dangerous. Furthermore, an “Accident Imitate Mode” has been developed to allow trainees to experience many potential accidents in-person within the virtual environment in order to improve safety awareness among construction workers.

Finally, the virtual reality training system aids in data management. All training and assessments will be done digitally through the solution’s VR software, which will automatically store the performance evaluation in a database under the backend system, rather than depending on printed notes and manpower when analyzing trainees’ performance. It aids in the examination of the users’ training records and the further analysis of their performance.

Networked Locking System (Solution 2)

Description of the solution

The company’s proprietary networked locking systems are a formidable alternative for mid-to large-size locker installations that require a comprehensive locker management solution and third-party connectivity. Anti-theft security is built into the keyless lock, and you can monitor how the lockers are being utilized in real-time. A networked alarm, occupancy tracking, and remote locker control are among the solution’s features. Aside from these basic functions, the app also provides detailed information about locker usage. Operators can simply identify how lockers are used thanks to an intuitive user interface and detailed reports. Lockers can be made publicly available to all users with a valid credential, marked as a personal locker, or reserved using different lock options.

Areas of Application

Broadcasting, City Management, Climate and Weather, Commerce and Industry, Development, Education, Employment and Labor, Environment, Finance, Food, Health, Housing, Infrastructure, Law and Security, Population, Recreation and Culture, Social Welfare, and Transportation were all included in the solution’s scope.

Technology Employed

The solution makes use of the most up-to-date RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology.
